The harmonica is such a small musical instrument that it might seem to the uninitiated to be nothing more than a toy. After all, an instrument that fits completely in the palm of your hand couldn't possibly yield any true emotional complexity, could it?
Well, don't tell that to Carey Bell, who delivered an utterly magnificent performance on Saturday night in the second of the Egg's three-concert Mid-Winter Blues Festival.
And don't try to tell that to the crowd of 700 to 800 fans who braved the bitter cold temperatures to listen to Bell blow his blues harp, either.
