NSW: Suing over bushfires would set dangerous precedent: Debus

New South Wales Environment Minister BOB DEBUS says a threat by farmers to sue theNational Parks and Wildlife Service over bushfires would set a damaging precedent.

State farmers federation president MAL PETERS has accused the government and the parksand wildlife service of failing dismally in their bushfire management policies.

Mr PETERS says the federation is considering legal action over the bushfires whichripped through the Goobang National Park in Yeoval around Christmas 2001.

But Mr DEBUS says the idea of suing over a natural disaster is deeply worrying.

He says it's a dangerous precedent to introduce a culture of litigation into the situation.
